Headline: first metric Century Ride for 2007

And the first one on the new bike too.

Talk about hard. 30km's along the zuri-see for an hour, then up the hills to Einsiedeln for 15km's. Then a 10km decent at 40-50km/h down to Pfaffikon, and the long drag back on the flat to Zurich.

Everything was going great until the 75km mark. Considering that the biggest ride i've done recently was 60kms, no surprise there.

But the worst part was the last 5kms, I'd run out of water at 85kms, and was begining to feel the effects - and then at 97km, i have to ride past home, and go around the block to get the 100.... wow.

We last went to Einsiedeln in winter, just as it was a winter wonderland - with the fields around the famous monastry covered in snow, and the nearby damn frozen over - this time, all green, with specks of colour all over.

  • 60mins - 30km - flat - avg 30km/h
  • 80mins - 15km up to Einsiedeln - avg, a puking 11km/h (up from 443m to 882m)
  • 25mins - 10km downhill - avg 45km/h smile
  • 115mins - 45km on flat - 23km/h

totals - 4:37 (~280mins) over 100km == avg 21km/h

wow, a road bike goes fast, shame i don't
